SECURITY ALERT: Calls Impersonating Coin IRA Targeting Your Crypto Wallets
Protecting your privacy, your assets, and your information has always been Coin IRA’s highest priority. We’re posting this Security Alert because we want you to know exactly what to watch for.
What We’re Hearing
Some clients have received calls from people pretending to be Coin IRA. This is called “spoofing”.
The caller says Coin IRA has received a request to close or suspend the client’s account, then asks questions about other crypto wallets the client may own, including cold storage wallets held outside Coin IRA.
These calls are not from Coin IRA. The caller ID may show our name or number, but scammers can fake it. Hang Up – Even if the Caller ID Shows Coin IRA.
Why this matters
Your Coin IRA account and assets remain securely held with our custodian, Equity Trust. However, crypto you hold on your own, in personal cold wallets, doesn’t have the protection of a custodian. That’s what these callers are after. Once someone has your recovery phrase or private keys, they can move your crypto, and it usually can’t be recovered. Do not give them any information.
To date, no client has reported a loss, and we have no indication that any Coin IRA account has been accessed.
If anyone contacts you by phone, email, or text and:
- Says your Coin IRA account is being closed or suspended and asks you for information
- Asks about crypto wallets or assets you hold anywhere else
- Asks for a password, seed or recovery phrase, private keys, or a one-time passcode or verification code
- Asks you to move crypto from your existing cold wallet to a new wallet or account
Hang up. Don’t click links or open attachments in unexpected emails from us or cold wallet providers, even if they seem legitimate. Our emails always come from an address ending in “@coinira.com.”
Never share your recovery phrase or private keys with anyone, for any reason. No legitimate company, including Coin IRA, wallet makers, or law enforcement, will ever ask for them.
Remember: Coin IRA will never call to ask about wallets or assets you hold elsewhere and will never ask you to move your funds.
If you’ve received a call or email like this, please contact Customer Support at (866) 924-5421, Monday through Friday, 7am–6pm PT, or email us at customersupport@coinira.com. Details like the date, time, and what the caller said help us protect all of our clients.
